about us

The goal was always land and raising cattle.

After meeting in a country western bar in Alexandria, Virginia, we quickly fell in love and got engaged. In talking about our future, we wanted to own our own land and raise our kids on a true working cattle ranch. I had a good job in account management at a technology start up, and Paul had started a contracting company (with the skills he learned from his dad, a general contractor in Augusta, GA) that was doing just fine. We could make it, but buying land for cows?! Out of the question. So we schemed and talked.

One Sunday after church we took a drive, and Paul slammed on the brakes at a "For Sale by Owner" sign of a condemned house. We called. Paul started researching. Before you know it we had borrowed every dollar we could to buy a condemned house with the hopes of turning a decent profit. It would be the first house Paul had ever built from the ground up. We were broke! So we bought a $250 trailer, affectionately named him Terry, and parked it on the lot. This is where Paul would live and work for the next year. No heat! Nothing! He would come over to my sister's house (where I was living) for meals and such, but mostly worked on the house 24/7. We were nervous and excited. The house's progress had delays and hiccups, and even I had to move into Terry for the first 42 nights of married life. We'd sit outside Terry with leftover wedding wine and cocktail peanuts for supper. It was a sight to see!

Skip to the punch line - it sold and quickly! We spent the next 6 years having babies, building houses, and moving in and out them as they sold. It was wild and wonderful. We had "farm fever" as the kids called it, and finally in 2016 we pulled the trigger and bought the ranch, started the herd, and have never looked back!
